Position Information
Job Title:
Maintenance Section Supervisor III ()
Location:
Tyler Area Engineer/Maint 15986 SH 155 SOUTH Tyler 75703
Shift: Tuesday - Friday, 7:00 AM – 5:30 PM (40 hrs per week). Travel: 10% of the time.
Work Location:
Tyler, TX – onsite.
Pay Basis:
Yearly. FLSA Status:
Exempt.
Minimum Salary: $76,530.00

- Administers and inspects contracted maintenance activities.
- Inspects road conditions, work‑in‑progress and work completed by crews and contractors.
- Plans, coordinates and implements emergency response to inclement weather, flooding, accidents and hazardous material spills affecting area roadways.
- Plans, schedules and coordinates work project needs to include personnel, equipment and material with the Area Engineer and other district staff on a regular basis.
- Prepares and monitors the budget.
- Prioritizes and assigns projects to the maintenance section assistant and crew chiefs; guides them in planning and scheduling of personnel/materials/equipment necessary to complete the work and ensures projects follow established safety guidelines.
- Responsible for maintenance section office activities including human resources, public relations, facilities, inventory management and general office administrative matters.
- Responsible for overseeing the operation and maintenance of light and heavy equipment.
- Trains other employees.
- Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.
- Education: High School Graduate or equivalent in general high school studies.
- Experience: 9 years roadway maintenance or construction‑related work (full‑time or prorated part‑time). Must have 3 years supervisory/managerial experience (project leader or lead worker experience may substitute).
- Licenses and
Certifications:- Valid driver’s license (state vehicle required).
- Commercial Class "A" Driver's License.
- Knowledge of intermodal transportation engineering construction and maintenance work.
- Knowledge of materials used in highway/bridge construction and maintenance.
- Knowledge of The Texas Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices.
- Budgeting methods and procedures.
- Maintenance contract inspection procedures.
- Ability to manage financial and personnel resources to achieve organizational goals.
- Public relations for maintaining effective working relationships.
- Planning, assigning, directing, coordinating and reviewing work of professional, administrative and technical employees.
Physical Requirements and
Working Conditions:- Subject to inside and outside environmental conditions.
- Hazards involving moving vehicles, mechanical parts, high places, heat or chemicals.
- Job identified as physically demanding; pre‑employment physical required.
- Must pass a drug test prior to employment; random drug testing may occur.
- Must be able to report for duty within 45 minutes of notification on a 24‑hour basis during emergency situations.
