Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct on‑site licensure inspections, complaint and incident investigations, and annual comprehensive surveys to determine compliance with federal and state health and safety regulations.
  • Complete written reports detailing deficiencies and provide narratives supporting regulatory findings.
  • Summarize facts, ensure documentation is clear, concise, and follows chain‑of‑custody, and recommend corrective actions.
  • Review and approve corrective action plans, inform providers of immediate remedial actions, recommend enforcement actions, and ensure administrative penalties are processed per state and federal requirements.
  • Participate in meetings to discuss major inspection findings, testify at hearings and court proceedings, and train new hires through on‑job training.
  • Assist with on‑call duties for emergencies and high‑priority situations, and maintain unit operations.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs)
  • Knowledge of local, state, and federal laws and regulations relevant to long‑term care.
  • Skill in conducting inspections and investigations, establishing evidence priorities, and analyzing data.
  • Skill in maintaining effective working relationships and effective verbal and written communication.
  • Ability to work independently, prepare reports, exercise professional judgment, and integrate complex regulatory concepts.
  • Ability to multi‑task with competing priorities and work in potentially emotionally charged environments.
  • Proficiency with computers and office software.
  • Ability to conduct interviews in various settings, including private residences, group homes, and state‑operated facilities.
  • Ability to work in environments where violent or dangerous individuals may be present.
Qualifications & Experience
  • Valid Class C (or higher) Texas driver’s license or equivalent.
  • Preferred:
    Four‑year degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Experience interacting with the public, in person or by phone.
  • Preferred experience conducting investigations and working with individuals with mental illness, intellectual or developmental disabilities, or physical disabilities.
Additional Requirements
  • Flexibility in work hours; up to 80% travel required, including statewide, overnight, and weekend travel.
  • Must have reliable transportation.
  • All applicants must pass a fingerprint criminal background check.
  • Professional licensing and Employee Misconduct Registry checks required for former or current licensed nursing facility administrators, certified nurse aides, or medication aides.
