Position Description
As a Safety Engineer, you support the safety manager and project team to successfully complete construction projects. You exercise judgment and discretion in making safety‑related recommendations, implementing safety policies and procedures, and handling a wide variety of safety matters in both the field and office. This safety‑sensitive position requires regular interaction with stakeholders and continuous monitoring of safety performance.

Essential Duties

• Communicate effectively with Hensel Phelps staff, craft, and trade partners.
• Understand the company safety and health program, owner requirements, and applicable regulatory standards (e.g., EM 385‑1‑1).
• Assist the project superintendent with the accident prevention plan, safety management tool, and crisis management plan.
• Participate in the six‑step quality control/safety process: review activity hazard analyses and follow‑up inspections.
• Conduct project safety audits and manage project point files.
• Support OSHA inspections as needed.
• Investigate accidents and near‑miss events, manage injury reporting, and handle claim reporting.
• Monitor Hensel Phelps and trade partner safety performance.
• Attend awareness and competent‑person level courses.
• Learn the construction process and the roles/responsibilities of all positions.

Additional Qualifications/Responsibilities

• 4‑year degree preferred, Occupational Safety and Health degree suggested.
• Valid driver’s license.
• Strong communication skills.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (especially Excel), Prolog, Primavera, and Auto Desk Suite.

Physical Work Classification & Demands

Moderate work: exerting up to 50 lb occasionally, up to 25 lb frequently, and up to 10 lb constantly for moving objects. Performs tasks such as walking, kneeling, sitting, crouching, reaching, stooping, seeing, speaking, pushing, pulling, lifting, standing, typing, operating office machinery, communicating, computing, reading blueprints, climbing ladders or scaffolding, maintaining balance, and operating a vehicle. Occasionally exposed to high/low temperatures and noisy outdoor environments.
