The Deputy Project Leader (Telecommunications) is a training position that involves learning how to supervise and direct employees on a project, prepare strategic plans and budgets, develop comprehensive project plans, and analyze statistical data.

The Deputy Project Leader (Telecommunications) must have experience in technology systems integration, including passive and active communication infrastructure, with a proven ability to lead design and construction teams.

Responsibilities include:

  • Assisting with leading a team that provides Communications and Electronic Safety and Security passive and active infrastructure, including communications ISP/OSP pathways and cabling, networking and wireless systems, CCTV, access control, A/V, and other technology applications ensuring design efficiency and contractual compliance.
  • Assisting in the design and deployment of Information Transport Systems and telecommunications systems.
  • Running day-to-day operations of a project or a section of a project.
  • Identifying change orders and ensuring effective resolution.
  • Pricing, tracking, and managing change orders.
  • Planning and monitoring cash flow against expenses.
  • Maintaining as-builts as work progresses.
  • Documenting project issues/conditions.
  • Planning and executing project completion and punch list.
  • Developing specific goals and plans to prioritize, organize, and accomplish work.
  • Reading and interpreting blueprints and project specifications.
  • Researching and compiling submittals; pricing change orders; preparing estimates for partially designed projects by completing the design and preparing a full project estimate.
  • Consulting with supervisory personnel, owners, contractors, and design professionals to discuss and resolve work procedures, complaints, and construction issues.
  • Communicating with external parties, representing the company to customers, the public, government, and general contractor representatives.
  • Understanding the urgency for decision-making, RFIs, and documenting verbal conversations or agreements.
  • Qualifications include:

    • 5+ years of experience working for a telecommunications integrator or electrical contractor, with a Bachelor’s Degree, preferably in Engineering, Construction Management, or similar.
    • Experience with telecommunication and electronic security projects ranging from $500,000 to $10M.
    • Experience working with contract drawings, subcontracts, addendums, specifications, change orders, RFIs, and submittals.
    • Experience installing Information Transport Systems.
    • Proficiency in MS Office Suite, Project Management software, CPM Scheduling, Cost modeling, and AutoCAD.
    • Knowledge of design techniques, tools, and concepts for electrical and security projects.
    • Familiarity with standard deliverables and work processes on construction and integration projects.
    • Strong interpersonal and writing skills, with problem-solving ability.
    • Proven planning and organizational skills.
    • Ability to work in diverse environments with personnel from various backgrounds.
    • Reliable attendance at customer sites during required hours.
    • Flexibility to work nights and weekends as needed.
    • Up to 25% travel; must have reliable transportation, a valid driver’s license, and a good driving record.

    Preferred experience includes:

    • Accubid Estimating (or similar) related to Electrical Installations.
    • Primavera P6 CPM Scheduling proficiency.
    • Willingness to travel to project locations.

    Abilities required:
