Responsibilities
The Safety Director is responsible for oversight of Construction Project Safety and Health (S&H), and Risk Management, effectively managing multiple Safety programs, developing and implementing M.C. Dean site-specific project safety plans, and collaborating with Project Management in the implementation and leadership of the Operational Risk Management (ORM) process.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
Assess construction safety, health, equipment, environmental, and electrical risks independently, develop risk and hazard control strategies, and audit and improve the project safety program.Ensure contract specifications, plans, and drawings are incorporated into the Accident Prevention Program (APP).Identify ongoing risks, anticipate construction interface S&H issues, and develop control strategies.Develop specific procedures and compliance documentation for identified issues.Create and conduct targeted S&H training for all field and operations staff.Review subcontractors’ safety submittals and collaborate with Project Management.Provide input on bid decisions, proposals, and estimates regarding safety requirements and subcontract development.Review safety data (Safety Net, ORM Self-Audits), analyze, and provide feedback.Participate in project meetings (PPKOM, PKOM, Gate Check, KPRs) to ensure safety integration.Apply world-class BMPs to improve ORM processes.Evaluate accident reports to determine causation and corrective actions.Conduct safety audits and reviews, manage claims, and oversee safety-related relationships and compliance.Support regulatory audits and manage work stoppages in IDLH situations.Integrate safety standards into procedural documents and contractual terms.Supervise and mentor safety personnel, including recruitment, performance evaluation, and meetings.This role involves physically demanding work outdoors in various weather conditions, at heights, and in restricted environments. Flexibility in work hours, including overtime, weekends, and night shifts, is required. The Safety Director must maintain professionalism when working with clients and project teams.
Qualifications
Experience:
16+ years in construction S&H, with extensive knowledge of safety standards and regulations.Experience in electrical, construction, industrial, federal, or commercial S&H.Knowledge of OSHA, MSHA, DOT, insurance audits, and safety surveys.Proficiency in S&H training and site coordination.Experience with project mitigation, technical reports, and client communication.Education:
B.S. Degree from an ABET-accredited program is required.Preferred: M.S. in Safety and Health / Occupational Safety.Skills:
Results-oriented work ethic.Willingness to travel.Analytical skills, computer proficiency, communication, leadership, and teaching abilities.Certifications:
Certified Safety Professional (CSP) is required.Preferred:
Professional Engineer (PE).Abilities
