Job Description

Purpose & Scope:

The registered professional nurse is responsible for the direct and indirect nursing care of assigned patients across all levels. This includes supervising assigned personnel and understanding department and hospital policies relevant to nursing care. The role requires interpretive, interactive, consultative, management, and supervisory skills. Effective communication, both written and verbal, is essential.

The Critical Safety Nurse (Radiology) promotes and maintains quality patient care before, during, and after radiologic procedures. Responsibilities include receiving hand-off communication during patient transport, monitoring and caring for the patient during procedures, and ensuring quality care upon patient return to their primary care location within Virginia Hospital Center. The role involves monitoring patients with pacemakers in MRI, administering medications for exams, and assessing patients for contrast reactions and extravasations.

The nurse will collaborate closely with radiologists to ensure optimal patient care.

Education:

Bachelor's degree in nursing required.

Experience:

Preferred:
Five years of healthcare/medical nursing/patient care experience, including critical care setting experience.

Certification/Licensure:

Licensed as a Registered Nurse by the Virginia Department of Health Professions or a compact state licensure in nursing is required.

BLS and ACLS certifications are required.

CCRN or PCCN certifications are preferred.

Registered Nurses on designated units must maintain specific certifications. New nurses or recent graduates have one year to complete these requirements.

Certifications such as ACLS, PALS, and NRP are required based on unit assignment, with policies indicating that current ACLS or PALS certifications suffice to meet BLS requirements per American Heart Association Guidelines.
