Surgical Assistant, Operating Room Nurse

Role Description The Surgical Nurse at Maia Plastic Surgery is a full-time, on-site role based in Tysons Corner, VA. This role supports surgical procedures by preparing the operating room, organizing instruments and supplies, and assisting the surgeon and clinical team before, during, and after surgery. Daily responsibilities include pre-operative patient assessments, intraoperative monitoring, and post-operative care, including patient education on recovery, follow-up care and postop visits.
The Surgical Nurse collaborates closely with the surgeon, anesthesiology providers, and front office staff to coordinate safe, efficient workflows and maintain high standards of infection control and documentation. The role requires strong communication skills, attention to detail, and a commitment to providing empathetic, high-quality care in an aesthetic surgical setting.
Qualifications
- Demonstrated experience in the operating room, including sterile technique, and perioperative workflows.
- Strong foundation in medicine and nursing principles, with the ability to apply clinical judgment in surgical and recovery settings.
- Hands-on experience in surgery support, including pre-op preparation, intraoperative assistance, and post-op monitoring and care.
- Proven commitment to patient care, including education, safety, comfort, and empathetic communication.
- Active RN license in the state of Virginia (or eligibility for licensure); BSN preferred.
- Previous experience in plastic surgery, cosmetic surgery, or related surgical specialties is highly beneficial.
- Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) required;
Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) preferred. - Ability to work collaboratively in a small, high-performing clinical team and adapt to evolving practice needs.
