Yard Supervisor

Title: Yard Supervisor - Open Storage Yard (Cars / Breakbulk / Project Cargo)

Summary:

To supervise and manage day-to-day operations of the open storage yard handling cars, breakbulk, and project cargo, ensuring safe, efficient cargo handling, optimal space utilization, and timely delivery operations in compliance with port and HSSE standards.

• Oversee daily yard activities, including cargo receipt, storage, shifting, and dispatch.
• Supervise handling of:
  Passenger vehicles (import/export/transit), Breakbulk cargo (steel, machinery, etc.), Project cargo (heavy lift, oversized cargo)
• Plan yard space allocation to maximize utilization and maintain organized stacking.
• Ensure proper segregation of cargo types and high-value units.
• Monitor cargo movement and coordinate with equipment operators and stevedores.
• Ensure smooth gate operations (inbound/outbound cargo flows).

• Coordinate availability and deployment of handling equipment (e.g., forklifts, cranes, trailers).
• Ensure proper lashing, securing, and protection of cargo.
• Supervise loading/unloading operations in line with cargo handling plans.
• Monitor the condition of cargo during handling and storage to prevent damage.

• Enforce strict adherence to Health, Safety, Security & Environmental (HSSE) policies.
• Conduct toolbox talks and safety briefings for yard staff.
• Ensure compliance with port regulations and company procedures.
• Identify potential hazards and implement corrective/preventive actions.
• Report incidents, near misses, and unsafe conditions promptly.

• Maintain accurate records of yard inventory (cars, breakbulk, project cargo).
• Track cargo location, status, and movement within the yard.
• Conduct regular physical stock checks and reconcile discrepancies.
• Ensure proper tagging, marking, and documentation of all cargo.

• Ensure proper documentation for cargo receipt, delivery, and transfers.
• Maintain daily operational logs, shift reports, and yard activity summaries.
• Coordinate with documentation, operations, and customs teams.
• Prepare reports on yard utilization, cargo volumes, and operational efficiency.

• Liaise with port authorities, shipping agents, transporters, and internal teams.
• Coordinate with vessel operations for timely cargo discharge/loading.
• Support customers by ensuring cargo readiness and timely delivery.
• Resolve operational issues proactively to avoid delays.

• Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Logistics, Maritime, or related field preferred.
• 5 - 8 years of experience in yard/terminal operations.
• Hands on experience with breakbulk, Ro Ro (cars), and project cargo handling.
• Experience working in UAE ports (preferably Khorfakkan or similar terminals) is an advantage.

• Physically fit to operate in an outdoor yard environment.
• Basic computer skills (MS Excel, reporting systems).
• A valid UAE driving license is an advantage.
