Responsibilities
  • Lead the reception team on a day‑to‑day operational basis, ensuring services are delivered in a coordinated and efficient manner, in accordance with service specifications and clinical KPIs, and aligned with national, local and organisational priorities to improve access and maximise activity.
  • Carry out reception and administrative tasks, including providing a first point of contact for patients and stakeholders (face‑to‑face and telephone), and delivering administrative support to the practice.
  • Collaborate with other receptionists and healthcare professionals to provide a first‑class service to patients.
  • Support the Practice Manager in running the practice, delegating tasks appropriately and developing efficient management systems.
  • Promote the development and maintenance of a qualifying learning environment throughout the practice.
  • Deputise for the Practice Manager and act as a member of the surgery team, ensuring effective processing of all administrative work and liaison with the reception and administration team.
Qualifications
  • Experience in an NHS or GP practice, with previous use of EMIS, is desirable.
  • Reception or customer care experience is essential, with excellent spoken and written communication skills.
  • Basic PC proficiency – Word, Excel and email.
  • Ability to work within established processes, maintain confidentiality and ensure data security.
  • Previous NHS experience is welcome but not essential.
