Document Controller (Contract)

Rate: 350 per day (Inside IR35)

Type: Contract

Location: Brighton area 1-2 days a week, rest remote

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Document Controller to join the delivery team on a major infrastructure programme. Working as part of a busy project environment, you will be responsible for managing the flow, control, and integrity of project documentation, ensuring information is accurate, accessible, and compliant with project and client requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the day-to-day operation of the project's Electronic Document Management System (EDMS), such as Asite, Aconex, Project Wise, Viewpoint, or SharePoint.
  • Control the receipt, distribution, tracking, and filing of all project documentation, including drawings, technical documents, correspondence, and transmittals.
  • Ensure documents are correctly numbered, version-controlled, and stored in line with project naming conventions and procedures.
  • Process and issue transmittals, and maintain accurate registers and document logs.
  • Carry out quality checks to ensure documentation meets required standards before issue.
  • Liaise with internal project teams, clients, subcontractors, and the supply chain to manage document workflows and resolve queries.
  • Support internal and external audits by maintaining a clear and traceable audit trail.
  • Produce regular reports on document status, outstanding actions, and overdue items.
  • Provide guidance and training to project staff on document control procedures and systems.

Essential Requirements

  • Proven experience as a Document Controller on major projects or large-scale programmes.
  • Strong working knowledge of at least one recognised EDMS platform.
  • Excellent attention to detail and a methodical, organised approach.
  • Confident communicator able to work with stakeholders at all levels.
  • Ability to work to deadlines in a fast-paced project environment.

Desirable

  • Experience with in the Water sector (highly advantageous but not essential).
