The purpose of this post is to work effectively as a lead member of an Early Learning and Childcare team to support the delivery of a high quality, safe and balanced education and care service, meeting the needs of each young child and their families and in accordance with relevant legislation and guidelines.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and coordinate the Early Learning & Childcare team.
  • Deliver high quality, safe, balanced education and care for children.
  • Ensure the service meets the needs of every child and family.
  • Maintain registered status with the Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC) throughout employment.
  • Adhere to SSSC Codes of Practice.
  • Engage with the Continuous Learning Framework to enhance professional development.
Qualifications & Requirements
  • Registered with the Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC) or willing to complete registration within 3 months of appointment.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of early childhood education principles.
  • Experience in a leadership or supervisory role within an early years setting.
  • Commitment to the Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Scheme – completion prior to formal offer.
  • Readiness to work 35.0 hours per week (Part‑time, Permanent).
Conditions of Service
  • Grade: H
  • Hourly pay inclusive of Distant Islands Allowance (£1.4808 per hour).
  • 35.0 hours per week, 40.5 weeks per year.
  • Pro‑rata paid holiday: 6.48 weeks (to be taken during school holidays). 40.5 weeks per year plus 6.48 weeks.
  • Relocation package: none.
  • Interview travel expenses covered within Shetland.
  • Flexible working arrangements available.
