Construction Manager Heavy Civils (HS2)

Location: Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire (site-based, 4 days on site / 1 WFH)
Salary: £60,000 £ 65,514 + 12% pension + private healthcare + 25 h
Programme: HS2 Phase One EKFB Main Works Civils (£4bn) 1
Progression: Senior Construction Manager (£80k £90k + package)
Note: No lodge, subsistence, car allowance or commuting costs paid

The Role

We are recruiting a Construction Manager (Construction Assurance) to work on a major £4bn Heavy Civils HS2 contract, covering a 15km rural section around Aylesbury.

Working within the Integrated Client / Main Contractor team, you will provide constructability and site assurance, ensuring works are delivered safely and in line with approved documentation and HS2 standards.

You will focus on high-risk activities such as heavy lifts, earthworks, poor ground conditions and working at height.

This is a client-side Construction Management assurance role, ensuring the main works contractor are delivering the assets as per contract, standards, design, safely and to the desired quality.

Looking for candidates from heavy civils delivery background open to both trades and engineering backgrounds GF, Works Manager, Construction Manager, Section Eng, Sub Agent.

Project Scope

Provide Client Construction Management Working alongside the main contractor EKFB Joint Venture (Eiffage, Kier, Ferrovial, BAM Nuttall) on Design & build £4bn Main Works Civils Contract.

  • Large-scale earthworks (cuttings & embankments)
  • Bridges, viaducts and roads
  • Associated heavy civils infrastructure

Key Responsibilities

  • Safety-first approach across all site activities
  • Constructability assurance using a risk-based approach
  • Review site documentation - work package plans, RAMS and ITPs
  • CDM compliance and site safety assurance
  • Provide specialist construction advice to HS2 Project Managers
  • Participate in safety tours and interface management
  • Verify works are built in line with approved methodology

Candidate Profile

Open to candidates from trades or engineering backgrounds with major civils experience, including:

  • Construction Manager / Works Manager / General Foreman
  • Sub Agent / Section Engineer
  • NEC3 Supervisor / Clerk of Works

Background in heavy civils (earthworks, highways, rail, water, structures, etc).

You ll be confident on site and a good communicator, strong on H&S and CDM, comfortable with multiple stakeholders, and keen to progress.

You must have as a minimum CSCS and SMSTS safety certs.

  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, work plans and site documentation
  • Able to commute to the Aylesbury site within 90 minutes each way
  • Practical knowledge of CDM regulations and a proactive approach to construction safety.
