Overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Junior Quantity Surveyor to join a major industrial construction project. Working as part of an established commercial and project delivery team, you will support the management of contractor and subcontractor packages throughout both the pre-contract and post-contract phases of the project lifecycle.

This role offers excellent exposure to large-scale engineering and construction works and would suit an individual looking to further develop their commercial and contract management experience within a complex project environment.

Key Responsibilities Pre-Contract Activities
  • Support the preparation and administration of confidentiality and non-disclosure agreements.
  • Assist with supplier and contractor pre-qualification activities, including Expressions of Interest (EOIs).
  • Prepare and issue tender documentation, including Invitations to Tender (ITT), Requests for Information (RFI), and Requests for Proposal (RFP).
  • Coordinate bidder communications and ensure technical queries are addressed through the appropriate project disciplines.
  • Assist in organising tender kick-off meetings and bidder site visits.
  • Participate in tender evaluations and bid clarification meetings.
  • Support the preparation of commercial evaluations and contract award recommendations.
  • Assist with the preparation and finalisation of contract documentation.
Post-Contract Activities
  • Attend and support contractor pre‑construction and kick‑off meetings.
  • Assist with the administration of contractor correspondence and contractual communications.
  • Maintain project registers including site instructions, variations, change control records and contractual documentation.
  • Monitor and track securities such as bonds, guarantees and insurance certificates.
  • Support the assessment of contractual and commercial implications arising from site instructions and project changes.
  • Assist in the management of technical queries, non‑conformance reports and concession requests.
  • Monitor contractor compliance with contractual obligations and project requirements.
  • Participate in contractor progress meetings and prepare meeting minutes and action trackers.
  • Review contractor applications for payment and invoices, ensuring compliance with contract terms.
  • Assist with site measurements, valuations and commercial reporting activities.
  • Support Senior Quantity Surveyors with commercial management and project controls activities.
Health, Safety & Compliance
  • Promote and maintain a strong health, safety and environmental culture.
  • Comply with all project procedures, policies and governance requirements.
  • Ensure contractual activities are delivered in accordance with project controls and delegated authorities.
  • Report hazards, unsafe conditions and incidents promptly.
  • Support investigations and corrective actions where required.
  • Maintain accurate project records and documentation for audit and archiving purposes.
Qualifications & Experience Essential
  • Degree, HNC, HND or equivalent qualification in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Previous experience within a construction, engineering, infrastructure or industrial project environment.
  • Understanding of contract administration and commercial management principles.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel and Word.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary project team.
Desirable
  • Experience supporting pre‑contract and post‑contract commercial activities.
  • Knowledge of change control, payment assessment and contractor management processes.
  • Familiarity with standard forms of contract such as NEC, FIDIC, IChemE or similar.
  • Understanding of construction methodologies and industrial project delivery.
  • Experience using commercial management or project reporting systems.
