Project Senior Quantity Surveyor

Location: Faversham, Kent

Salary: £53,000 - £67,000 per annum

The Opportunity

Hill McGlynn are currently working with an established construction consultancy who are looking to appoint an experienced Project Senior Quantity Surveyor to join their team, based from their Faversham office.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Project Quantity Surveyor looking to take a senior role within a professional consultancy, managing their own workload and projects while also playing an important part in the support and development of junior Surveyors.

You will provide high-quality commercial and cost-management advice throughout the project lifecycle, working directly with clients, contractors and consultants across a varied portfolio of construction and property projects. The business offers hybrid working, a 37.5-hour working week and flexible start times, alongside excellent opportunities for continued professional and career development.

A relevant construction or surveying degree is essential for this position.

The Role

As a Project Senior Quantity Surveyor, you will take responsibility for the commercial and cost management of projects from initial feasibility through to completion and final account. You will also support junior members of the surveying team, providing guidance, mentoring and technical support as they develop their careers.

Key responsibilities will include:
  • Taking responsibility for Quantity Surveying and cost consultancy services across multiple projects.
  • Managing projects from feasibility and pre-construction through to completion and final account.
  • Preparing feasibility estimates, detailed cost plans and project budgets.
  • Advising clients on cost, procurement and commercial strategy.
  • Preparing tender documentation and managing competitive tender processes.
  • Analysing contractor submissions and preparing tender reports and recommendations.
  • Managing valuations, applications for payment, variations and change control.
  • Preparing detailed cost reports and forecasts for clients.
  • Monitoring project expenditure against agreed budgets.
  • Managing and negotiating final accounts.
  • Identifying and managing commercial risks and opportunities.
  • Attending and leading client, design team and project meetings.
  • Developing strong relationships with clients, contractors, consultants and other project stakeholders.
  • Supporting, mentoring and developing Graduate and Assistant Surveyors.
  • Reviewing junior team members' work and providing technical and commercial guidance.
  • Helping promote best practice and high professional standards across the surveying team.
About You

We are looking for an experienced and commercially strong Senior Quantity Surveyor / Senior Cost Consultant who is confident managing projects and supporting the development of less experienced members of the team.

You will ideally have:
  • A relevant degree in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management or a related construction discipline - essential.
  • Significant Quantity Surveying or Cost Consultancy experience.
  • Previous experience within a construction consultancy would be highly advantageous.
  • Strong pre- and post-contract Quantity Surveying experience.
  • Experience managing projects and client relationships with a good degree of autonomy.
  • Strong knowledge of cost planning, procurement, tendering, valuations, variations and final accounts.
  • Good knowledge of construction contracts and commercial risk.
  • The confidence and experience to support, mentor and develop junior Surveyors.
  • Strong client-facing and stakeholder-management skills.
