The post holder will work at the Dental Teaching Unit (DTU), Port Talbot Resource Centre, and Community Dental Services clinics in the SBUHB area.
The Dental Training Unit and the Community Dental Service are looking for an individual to join their team to commence as soon as possible.
Key Duties and Responsibilities (CDS)- Provide dental care, including Special Care dentistry, for vulnerable children and adults in a range of settings such as fixed clinics, mobile dental units, domiciliary visits, and other locations including secure units, residential homes, and rehabilitation centres.
- Participate in the paediatric referral and preventive pathway.
- Supervise preventative programmes and care packages delivered by complementary dental personnel.
- Undertake screening of priority groups when requested.
- Participate in community‑based oral health promotion projects/activities commensurate with the post grade.
- Work with and support the Designed to Smile, Gwen Am Byth, and Cluster Transformation Programs.
- Ensure patients are aware of the nature of the contract under which they are treated and the probable cost of the proposed treatment.
- Obtain consent for each treatment.
- Collect NHS patient charges payable.
- Maintain comprehensive clinical records.
This is a part‑time post for 22.5 hours per week. The purpose is to work with the Health Board and the Welsh Deanery to improve, facilitate, and develop dental health care services in the SBU area.
- Comprehensive general dental services to patients.
- Comprehensive care to child and adult patients in the Community Dental Services.
- Be able to triage and be part of the GA assessment pathway within CDS. The unit is engaged in the GDS Reform Programme.
The objective is to reduce inequalities in oral health status and improve access to NHS dental services by providing an accessible comprehensive range of primary care services. Support the training and mentoring of Dental Foundation Trainees and the dental team as and when requested by the Senior Educational Lead.
