Responsibilities
- Support Specialist Patient Pathways within the Community Dental Service.
- Maintain a high standard of patient care and confidentiality across all dental clinics.
- Manage patients with complex dental, social and medical needs.
- Control stock, rotate and order dental consumables from appropriate suppliers.
- Prepare and maintain specialised dental equipment and dispose of clinical waste, including bodily fluids.
- Support recording of patient pre-operative assessments such as height, weight and blood pressure.
- Carry out any other duties as directed by the Dental Nurse Manager and/or Dental Nurse Tutor(s).
- Provide clinical nursing support for radiography within the department.
- Identify staff or students requiring additional training within the specialty and coordinate appropriate training.
- Assist the School of Dental Nursing, University of Birmingham, and relevant Heads of Service in delivering team training for all disciplines.
- Adhere to procedures and policies to meet national compliance targets and implement agreed local, Divisional and Trust policies.
- Support implementation of Clinical Governance and Quality Improvement initiatives within the specialty.
- Maintain flexibility and travel to other sites/locations within the division as required.
- Hold a Dental Sedation Certificate for Inhalation Sedation (minimum requirement).
- Complete up-to-date sedation training and be able to provide a copy of a CPD log related to sedation specialism.
- Experience delivering dental nursing care under local anaesthetic, conscious sedation and general anaesthesia.
- Strong understanding of clinical governance, quality improvement and compliance processes.
- Excellent organisational and communication skills.
