Band 5 Specialist Sedation Dental Nurse; IHS

Responsibilities

• Support Specialist Patient Pathways within the Community Dental Service.
• Maintain a high standard of patient care and confidentiality across all dental clinics.
• Manage patients with complex dental, social and medical needs.
• Control stock, rotate and order dental consumables from appropriate suppliers.
• Prepare and maintain specialised dental equipment and dispose of clinical waste, including bodily fluids.
• Support recording of patient pre-operative assessments such as height, weight and blood pressure.
• Carry out any other duties as directed by the Dental Nurse Manager and/or Dental Nurse Tutor(s).
• Provide clinical nursing support for radiography within the department.
• Identify staff or students requiring additional training within the specialty and coordinate appropriate training.
• Assist the School of Dental Nursing, University of Birmingham, and relevant Heads of Service in delivering team training for all disciplines.
• Adhere to procedures and policies to meet national compliance targets and implement agreed local, Divisional and Trust policies.
• Support implementation of Clinical Governance and Quality Improvement initiatives within the specialty.
• Maintain flexibility and travel to other sites/locations within the division as required.

• Hold a Dental Sedation Certificate for Inhalation Sedation (minimum requirement).
• Complete up-to-date sedation training and be able to provide a copy of a CPD log related to sedation specialism.
• Experience delivering dental nursing care under local anaesthetic, conscious sedation and general anaesthesia.
• Strong understanding of clinical governance, quality improvement and compliance processes.
• Excellent organisational and communication skills.
