Overview
The main role of the post holder will be to support the Dental Service Clinical Director in the effective management and leadership of the Special Care and Community Dental Service, within the Allerdale and Copeland locality. The post holder will be expected to actively support the Clinical Director in developing the strategic direction of the service. The Clinical Lead will be a highly visible, proactive and accessible clinical leader in their locality, acting as a role model and clinical resource and ensuring the sustained delivery of high standards of clinical care and service delivery to clinicians, patients and the public.
Responsibilities- Support the Dental Service Clinical Director in the effective management and leadership of the Special Care and Community Dental Service.
- Actively support the Clinical Director in developing the strategic direction of the service.
- Serve as a highly visible, proactive clinical leader, role model and resource for the local team.
- Ensure the sustained delivery of high standards of clinical care and service delivery to clinicians, patients and the public.
- Perform up to six clinical sessions per week as agreed in the job plan.
- Participate in out‑of‑hours/on‑call arrangements in line with Trust policy and local arrangements.
- Engage in clinical audit, evaluation and learning cycle activities.
- Provide clinical supervision and mentoring of staff.
- Assist with policy and planning, recruitment, appraisal, staff development, budgeting and procurement.
- BDS or equivalent NHS England performer list number with no conditions or restrictions.
- Current GDC registration.
- Post‑graduate dental qualification in sedation, special care or paediatric dentistry.
- Management qualification or appropriate training.
- Post‑graduate educational qualification.
- Minimum eight years of clinical experience.
- Experience in clinical audit, evaluation and learning cycle.
- Experience in educational or clinical supervision.
- Experience in policy and planning, staff recruitment, appraisal and development.
- Knowledge and understanding of NHS England commissioning strategies on special care and paediatric dentistry, NHS rules and regulations, decontamination regulations.
- Aptitude to learn and develop new skills, good organisation and time‑management skills, ability to work under pressure and within tight deadlines.
- Coaching, mentoring and presentation skills.
- Budget management experience.

Applicants will be required to provide DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) check. DBS costs will be deducted from salary over four months or can be paid one‑off. Standard Check: £28.00. Enhanced Check: £56.00.
