The department has UKAS accreditation to ISO
151589:2022. It processes and reports, per year, approximately 23,000 surgical specimens (approximately 18,000 for the NHS with 16% from general practitioners), 1200 diagnostic cytopathology specimens and 1000 semenology samples.

The laboratory was designed in collaboration with the staff and has modern equipment including height adjustable dissection benches and a recently introduced Sakura Tissue-Tek Prisma® Plus automated slide stainer and cover slipper, and a Dako Omnis immunohistochemistry immunostainer. Another similar immunostainer is being brought in to meet the increasing demands of immunohistochemistry and molecular pathology. The laboratory currently operates with two digital scanners which are used on a daily basis.

The appointed candidates will join an existing team of 6 senior medical staff including Consultants. On joining the department, you will become part of a well-established, friendly team and will help us continue to drive forward improvements in the service that we provide to our patients. As a senior member of the team, you will become a key part in the delivery of training and supervision to our junior colleagues.

• Fully registered with the GMC
