Job Description & How to Apply Below

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Architectural Technologist to join the growing Birmingham studio of a well-established, nationally recognised architectural practice.

With a rich history dating back over 100 years, the practice has evolved into a collaborative, multi-disciplinary organisation with more than 65 professionals working across six UK offices. Its work spans a diverse range of sectors including education, healthcare, residential, industrial and commercial, higher education, science and research, heritage, hospitality, sports and leisure, and master planning.

The Birmingham studio is currently a close-knit team of four and is entering an exciting period of growth, with ambitious plans to develop the team to around 10 people by mid-2027. This is therefore an excellent opportunity for an Architectural Technologist to join at an early stage and play a meaningful role in shaping the future of the Birmingham office.

The Role

Working as part of a collaborative project team, you will contribute to the delivery of projects from inception through to completion, producing high-quality technical information and helping to coordinate projects effectively.

Your responsibilities are likely to include:

  • Producing detailed working drawing and technical information packages.
  • Contributing to planning applications and other statutory approval processes.
  • Developing and coordinating detailed design information.
  • Liaising with clients, consultants, contractors, planning authorities and building control.
  • Producing and coordinating information in accordance with relevant Building Regulations and technical standards.
  • Supporting design-stage risk assessments and project delivery.
  • Assisting with contract administration and project certification where appropriate.
  • Working collaboratively with colleagues across the Birmingham studio and wider practice.
  • Taking responsibility for the quality and accuracy of your technical output.
  • Contributing ideas and technical expertise to help deliver innovative, practical and sustainable design solutions.

The majority of projects are delivered using Revit, so experience with Revit and BIM workflows would be highly advantageous.

About You

You will ideally be an Architectural Technologist with a BSc (Hons), HNC or equivalent qualification in Architectural Technology, with CIAT membership or a relevant equivalent professional qualification desirable.

You should have:

  • Previous experience working within an architectural practice or similar built-environment environment.
  • Strong technical detailing and Building Regulations knowledge.
  • Experience producing detailed construction and working drawing packages.
  • Good knowledge of NBS.
  • Revit/BIM experience, ideally within a professional architectural environment.
  • Strong communication and organisational skills.
  • The ability to work collaboratively as part of a team while also managing your own workload.
  • A keen eye for detail and a genuine interest in design and technical excellence.
  • A proactive and solutions-focused approach to project delivery.

Experience across any of the practice's diverse sectors would be welcomed, but above all, they are looking for someone who is enthusiastic, collaborative and keen to develop their career within a growing team.

Why Join?

This is much more than simply another Architectural Technologist position. Joining at this stage means becoming part of a new and rapidly expanding Birmingham studio, backed by an established national practice and a broad portfolio of exciting projects.

The practice places significant emphasis on its people and has held Investors in People accreditation continuously for years, currently achieving Gold standard. Its culture is centred around collaboration, professional development, inclusivity and giving employees opportunities to progress.

Employees benefit from a structured approach to training and development, including annual appraisals and a continuous professional development programme.
