Technical Workplace Designer Reading | £45,000–£55,000 | Full-Time | Office-Based in Reading Turn great workplace design into something that can actually be built.
We’re looking for an experienced Technical Workplace Designer to join our team in Reading — someone who thrives in the detail, understands how buildings come together, and takes real pride in turning creative ideas into precise, coordinated, and buildable solutions.
This isn’t simply a role for producing drawings.
You’ll sit at the heart of our projects, bridging the gap between creative design, pre-construction, and site delivery. Your work will help ensure that what looks great on paper works brilliantly in the real world, technically, commercially and practically.
If you’re the person who spots the clash before it reaches site, finds the smarter detail when something changes, and gets genuine satisfaction from a beautifully resolved drawing package, we’d love to hear from you.
The RoleYou’ll take ownership of the technical development of workplace projects, translating design concepts into detailed construction information that can be confidently priced, procured, and built.
Working closely with our Operations Director, Head of Pre-Construction, creative team and site teams, you’ll make sure every element of a project is properly coordinated before it reaches site.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Producing detailed and accurate drawing packages, including floor plans, reflected ceiling plans, power/data layouts, elevations and bespoke joinery details.
- Developing design information from concept through to construction, ensuring solutions are practical, coordinated and buildable.
- Working closely with the pre-construction team to refine technical details, respond to tender queries and ensure designs work within project budgets and procurement programmes.
- Coordinating with M&E, HVAC and other specialist requirements to ensure all elements of the workplace work together seamlessly.
- Liaising with Approved Inspectors, fire consultants and other external consultants to support Building Control compliance.
- Carrying out site surveys and attending progress meetings to understand real-world conditions and resolve technical challenges.
- Maintaining excellent CAD standards, drawing accuracy and document control throughout the project lifecycle.
- Taking ownership of technical packages and proactively identifying potential issues before they become problems on site.
We’re looking for someone with 5+ years’ experience in workplace or commercial interior design, with a strong emphasis on technical design and project delivery.
You’ll ideally bring:
- Expert-level AutoCAD skills.
- Experience with Revit would be highly advantageous.
- Strong knowledge of workplace construction and technical detailing.
- A good understanding of partition systems, acoustic solutions, M&E integration and bespoke furniture/joinery construction.
- A working knowledge of UK Building Regulations and compliance requirements.
- The ability to produce efficient, practical and compliant workplace space plans.
- Excellent communication skills and the confidence to discuss technical solutions with colleagues, consultants, contractors and clients.
Although this is fundamentally a technical design role, we’re particularly interested in people who have an eye for great design.
If you can move comfortably between technical drawings and creative thinking, that’s a real advantage.
You may also have experience in:
- Developing workplace layouts that make intelligent use of space, natural light, acoustics, privacy and collaborative flow.
- Selecting finishes, furniture and materials that balance aesthetics, durability, and budget.
- Refining technical details so they enhance rather than…
