We are seeking an enthusiastic and forward‑thinking Consultant Cardiologist with a specialist interest in Cardiac Imaging to join our dynamic and innovative team at Great Western Hospital. This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in a rapidly expanding imaging service within a high‑performing cardiology department recognised for its commitment to clinical excellence, research and service innovation. With significant recent investment in CT and MRI capacity and a growing demand for advanced multi‑modality imaging to support modern cardiology pathways, this post offers the opportunity to shape and develop services at a pivotal time while contributing to outstanding patient‑centred care.
Mainduties of the job
- Deliver high‑quality general cardiology care across inpatient and outpatient settings
- Provide specialist expertise in cardiac imaging, including echocardiography (TTE, TOE, stress echo) and, where appropriate, CT and/or CMR
- Support and develop multi‑modality imaging services, including CTCA and CT‑FFR pathways
- Participate in MDT meetings, including structural heart and complex coronary discussions
- Contribute to the Cardiologist of the Week (COW) rota (1:11), providing acute cardiology support to ACU/AMU and advice and guidance to primary care
- Take part in the on‑call rota (currently 1:9) and inpatient ward cover
- Work collaboratively across disciplines, including Radiology, Cardiac Physiology and Cardiac Surgery networks
- Contribute to teaching, training, audit and research activities within the department
All staff in each Division are managerially accountable through their Lead Clinician to the Associate Medical Director, who has overall responsibility for the services within the Division. Consultants are key members of the Division and are accountable and responsible for leading changes to service that will improve the patient experience. To support the Clinical Lead in policy and strategy development as a senior member of the Division Management Team.
To contribute to the leadership and development of services under the direction of the Clinical Lead and Associate Medical Director and in line with the Trust's business plans. The post holder will ensure effective communication and involvement of staff across the Division including support to the Divisional Director to achieve their objectives. Work in partnership with colleagues in other Divisions within the Trust.
Specification Qualifications
- Fully registered with the GMC
- CCT (or equivalent for non‑UK applicants) or be accredited and be on the GMC Specialist Register in the specialty appropriate for this consultant post at the time of taking up the consultant appointment. Alternatively, candidates can hold or be within 6 months of their CCT at interview
- MRCP (UK) or equivalent
- Clinical training/experience equivalent to that required for gaining UK CCT
- Expertise in the full range of Cardiology conditions
- Ability to lead a multi‑professional team and take full and independent responsibility for clinical care of patients
- Trained in complex pacing and experience with conduction system pacing
- Recent experience of emergency trans‑venous temporary pacing and pericardiocentesis (mentorship will be available by negotiation) – maintenance of emergency on‑call skills
- Sub‑speciality interests will be supported
