We are seeking an enthusiastic and motivated Consultant Cardiologist with a specialist interest in Interventional Cardiology to join our dynamic and forward‑thinking department at Great Western Hospital.

This is an exciting opportunity to join a high‑performing cardiology service at a time of significant growth and investment. This new substantive post has been created to support increasing demand for coronary intervention and to optimise utilisation of our modern catheter laboratory facilities.

You will join a collaborative team of six interventional cardiologists (expanding to seven with this appointment) within a wider consultant body currently comprising 13 cardiologists, increasing to 15 with concurrent recruitment to an imaging post. The service is recognised for its innovation, strong multidisciplinary working, and commitment to delivering high‑quality, patient‑centred care.

Main duties of the job
  • Deliver a comprehensive interventional cardiology service, including elective and emergency PCI
  • Support a high‑volume diagnostic and interventional service (~1,500 angiograms and 400 PCI cases annually)
  • Undertake inpatient and outpatient general cardiology care, including ward rounds and clinics
  • Participate in the consultant on‑call rota and Cardiologist of the Week (COW) service
  • Take part in the regional primary PCI rota at Bristol Heart Institute (BRI)
  • Contribute to multidisciplinary team (MDT) working, including complex PCI and structural heart discussions
  • Support and develop advanced interventional techniques, including physiology‑ and imaging‑guided PCI
  • Contribute to teaching, training, audit, and research activities

The post will operate within a flexible job plan, designed to optimise catheter laboratory utilisation and balance elective and acute activity. Finalised job plans will be provided at least 8 weeks in advance, in line with service requirements.
