Job overviewThis post is for a Consultant Medical Oncologist with an interest in Lower & Upper GI based in Brighton but with cross site working in Eastbourne (ESHT), as part of UHSussex Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.
The workload predominantly relates to outpatient clinical activity, with regular commitments to caring for general oncology inpatients and review of patients in the same day emergency care unit as well as taking part in an out of hours oncology on call rota.
In addition, the post will require clinical leadership, MDT attendance and active participation, medical student and registrar teaching, and there will be clinical research opportunities.
Main duties of the jobThe clinical duties of the post include the following:
- Clinical trials leadership and delivery
- Team leadership and clinical management
- Clinical admin generated from patients seen and liaison with other AHPs, and primary care
- Clinical Governance meetings
- Ward reviews when appropriate
- Full GMC Registration with a licence to practice
- CCT in oncology or equivalent (equivalence must be confirmed by GMC by date of AAC)
- Entry onto the GMC Specialist Register or eligibility for entry within 6 months of the date of the AAC
- Evidence of training in broad spectrum of oncology tumour sites
- Interest and training suitable for a LGI cancer oncology post
- Breadth of experience in and outside specialty
- Experience and ability to work in multi-professional teams
- Understanding of: NHS / Clinical governance / Resource constraints
- Evidence of managerial skills:

- Evidence of an interest and commitment to teaching
- Recognised teaching qualification
- Evidence of participation in audit Experience of planning, and delivering clinical research including liaison with national groups, third sector and commercial funders
