Fixed Term Consultant in Clinical Oncology (Head Neck & Skin)

This post is for a Consultant Clinical Oncologist with an interest in Head, Neck & Skin. The role is fixed‑term for 12 months, with an expectation of a subsequent substantive appointment.

Main duties
  • Outpatient clinics
  • Multidisciplinary team (MDM) attendance
  • SART prescribing
  • Radiotherapy planning
  • Clinical trials leadership and delivery
  • Acute oncology team leadership and clinical management
  • Clinical administration generated from patients seen and liaison with other AHPs and primary care
  • Clinical governance meetings
  • Ward reviews when appropriate
Person specification Experience / Qualifications
  • MB BS, FRCR or appropriate specialist qualification, or its recognised equivalent.
  • Full and specialist registration (with a licence to practise) with the GMC or eligibility for registration within six months of interview. If trained in the UK, must have a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) in Oncology or be within six months of receiving it by interview date. If trained outside the UK, must provide evidence that qualifications are equivalent to the UK CCT (equivalence confirmed by GMC by date of application).

Clinical Skills and Experience
  • Evidence of training in a broad spectrum of oncology tumour sites
  • Understanding of clinical risk management
Knowledge
  • Breadth of experience in and outside specialty
Organisation and Planning
  • Experience and ability to work in multi‑professional teams
  • Understanding of NHS, clinical governance and resource constraints
  • Evidence of managerial skills: achievements or courses attended
Teaching Skills
  • Evidence of an interest and commitment to teaching
  • Recognised teaching qualification
Academic and Research
  • Evidence of participation in audit
  • Research experience
  • Publications
  • Prizes and honours
  • Appropriate progression of career to date
Personal Attributes
  • Good communication skills, both oral and written

Salary: £113,565 to £150,569 a year (pro‑rata)
