Job summary
We are seeking an enthusiastic Consultant Dermatologist to join our Dermatology Team. This is fixed term 10 PA post initially for 12 months. We also welcome applications from candidates wishing to work less than full time. We are able to increase the total PAs to 13 and these could be shared between part time consultants The successful candidates will join an established team of 21 Consultants.
There is support from 1 Associate Specialist, 4 Specialty doctors and specialist dermatology nurses including 2 skin cancer specialist nurses and 2 paediatric specialist dermatology nurses.
Services available include day case surgery, paediatric dermatology, phototherapy, photodynamic therapy, patch testing and iontophoresis.
Specialist clinics include joint Leg Ulcer, Vulval and Male Genital Dermatoses, hair and skin of colour.
We have an outreach Plastic Surgery service from the Royal Free Hospital. The post-holders will work with colleagues to support and develop Dermatology services for the local population.
You will be based across at no more than 2 hospital sites within the trust which include Watford General, Hemel Hempstead and St Albans City Hospitals.
The main duties of the post will be general dermatology and skin cancer clinics, minor surgical sessions, teledermatology sessions and attendance at our skin cancer MDT meetings.

Job responsibilitiesThe Consultant appointed will have continuing responsibility for the care of patients in his/her charge. He/she will also undertake the administrative duties associated with the care of his/her patients. He/she should have ability to work within our large team of consultants, junior doctor, nurses and administrative staff. He/she will be mentored by asenior consultant dermatologist. There will be no on call commitments.
Management of the Dermatology Department is under the direction of Kylie Beattie Dermatology Service Manager
- Full GMC registration MRCP (UK) or equivalent qualification
- Completed CCT in Dermatology within 6 months or completion or completed CESR (certificate of eligibility for specialist registration) accreditation/submitted CESR application
- Broad range of experience in Dermatology, in particular management of skin cancer and systemic therapies including biologics
- MD or PhD
- A specialist interest in a specialist area to complement the other consultants in the department
