About the role

For this ACF we are seeking an enthusiastic candidate interested in research in HIV or Sexual Health. The successful candidate will undertake academic training alongside their specialty training in Genitourinary Medicine, with 25% of their training time dedicated to research. Candidates appointed at ST1-ST3 will undertake an integrated academic training programme and, subject to appropriate clinical benchmarking and satisfactory progression, will enter the Genitourinary Medicine training pathway.

The post is designed to support the development of a competitive research portfolio with the aim of progressing to a higher degree (MD or PhD) and a future clinical academic career. This post can be entered at any stage between ST1 and ST3.

The academic component of the programme will be based within the Department of Global Health and Infection at Brighton and Sussex Medical School, led by Professor Jaime Vera. The successful ACF will have the opportunity to develop their own research projects in HIV or Sexual Health, working within a multidisciplinary research environment that includes clinical researchers, social scientists, global health academics and health economists.

Trainees will receive academic supervision and are encouraged to apply for research fellowships during the programme to support higher degree study.

This is a nationally recruited ACF post and applications must be submitted through the NIHR Academic Clinical Fellowship recruitment process via Oriel. Applicants must meet the relevant eligibility requirements and are subject to appropriate clinical benchmarking.
