About the Role

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Complex Needs Teaching Assistant to join a specialist school settings in Manchester. This full-time role is available for an immediate start and involves supporting pupils with a range of complex needs, including severe learning difficulties (SLD), profound and multiple learning difficulties (PMLD), autism spectrum condition (ASC), physical disabilities, and medical needs.

This is a highly rewarding position suited to someone who is patient, nurturing, and committed to supporting children and young people with additional needs to achieve their full potential.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide 1:1 and small group support for pupils with complex learning, communication, and physical needs.

  • Assist in delivering personalised learning programmes tailored to individual EHCP targets.

  • Support pupils with personal care, including toileting, feeding, and mobility, where required.

  • Use alternative communication methods such as PECS, Makaton, or visual timetables.

  • Support sensory regulation strategies and structured routines.

  • Work collaboratively with teachers, therapists, and external professionals to meet pupils' holistic needs.

  • Promote independence, dignity, and inclusion at all times.

  • Ensure safeguarding and health and safety procedures are followed consistently.

The Ideal Candidate Will Have
  • Experience working with children or young people with complex needs in a school, care, or specialist setting.

  • A calm, empathetic, and resilient approach.

  • Understanding of autism, sensory processing needs, and communication difficulties.

  • Confidence supporting personal care and medical needs (training can be provided).

  • Strong teamwork and communication skills.

  • A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.

  • Relevant qualifications (Level 2/3 Teaching Assistant or equivalent) - desirable but not essential.
