Position: Learning Support Assistant (Permanent)
Location: Marston

Learner Support to start asap - March ideally

£24k Full Time to cover 3 centres around Cheshire

Cheshire, North West 5 days a week

Do you have experience of working in with young people ? Have you got experience of working in the Brownies, guides, Scouts, local youth groups, classroom assistant, SEN Teaching Assistant, learning support assistants, youth workers, behaviour coach/mentor.?

The Learning Support Assistant’s (LSA) main role is to provide additional support for learners aged 16 to 24 with Special Educational Needs Disabilities (SEND) under the direction of the class tutor support during their classes, in small groups or on a one to one basis. Our client are one of the largest providers of apprenticeships and work based learning in the North West.

They now have an exciting opportunity to join their team for an enthusiastic and experienced learning support assistant / classroom assistant

Do you have 1:1 teaching assistant experience supporting children within a classroom setting who require extra additional support. Some of our learners have high needs and whilst working closely with the study programme tutor and other members of team you will help develop strategies that with help the children reach their individual potential. You will be supporting with the students academic work and supporting managing their behaviour.

* Work under the direction of the class tutor or Learning Support Lead and Safeguarding Team to provide learning support during classroom activities, in small groups or on a one to one basis.

* Following support and safety plans and risk assessments

* Be involved in the learner six-weekly progress reviews, working with the Tutor to discuss the learner progress around setting and reviewing SMART targets, engaging in subject discussions, and evaluating performance.

* Under the direction of the Tutor provide support learners by:

* Clarifying and explaining instructions

* Ensuring the learner has and is able to use equipment and materials provided

* Motivating and encouraging learners, by providing levels of individual attention, reassurance and help with learning tasks as appropriate to individual needs

* Support learners with social and communication language, reading, spelling, numeracy, handwriting/presentation etc

* Support assistive technology to help the learners in their learning and independence

* Using praise, commentary and assistance to encourage the learner to concentrate and stay on task

* Monitor learner’s responses to the learning activities and, where appropriate, modify or adapt the activities as agreed with the teacher to achieve the intended learning outcomes.

* Liaise with class tutor, Learning Support Lead and other professionals contributing to discussions and assist with the review of learner’s targets and individual learning plans

* Assist in the assessment of learners, to ensure that an accurate baseline of developmental needs is identified

* Contribute to identifying or designing appropriate resources to support learners

* Supporting independent living skills development where appropriate

Essential

* Have experience of working successfully with young people, eg Brownies, Scouts and guides - youth work.

* Excellent understanding of issues and barriers to learning for learners with a SEND and strategies to overcome these

Desirable

Experience of working in an education setting with young people with learning difficulties, disabilities and complex and physical needs.

* Be productive, flexible and show initiative.

* Communicate effectively and appropriately to learners with different abilities.

* Ability to motivate individuals to engage in all aspects of learning

* Assist with the organisation of the learning environment.

* Maintain records of the pupils.
