Trainee Education Mental Health Practitioner
Position Overview
You will train as an Education Mental Health Practitioner (EMHP) as part of a national initiative to expand access to mental health support in educational settings. The post involves working in schools, under supervision within our Mental Health Support Teams, delivering evidence‑based interventions to children and young people up to 18 years old. The role requires creativity, flexibility, and a strong commitment to improving outcomes for young people.
Trainingand Qualification
- Full‑time educational programme of 12 months (starting September 2026) delivered through university taught days, self‑guided study and experience in schools.
- On successful completion trainees qualify as an EMHP.
- Sign a learning agreement before employment starts.
- Co‑located in schools across your locality, working collaboratively with education staff.
- Promote a whole‑school approach to emotional wellbeing and mental health.
- Deliver evidence‑based interventions to children and young people.
- Support school staff and pupils to create emotionally healthy school environments.
- Compile and submit reports and learning agreements as required.
- Ability to work at degree level or equivalent level of relevant experience.
- Proven record of previous learning or formal study in child development, wellbeing or mental health.
- Desire to work in children’s mental health and an understanding of the educational system in England.
- For level 6 applicants: evidence of studying at Level 6 or pre‑entry essay evidence for University of Reading.
- Good basic literacy and numeracy qualifications at a minimum of level 2.
Applicants who hold an Honours degree of 2.2 or above should apply for the postgraduate route.
