ASL Interpreter
MGEU
6.0 Hours per day
Term to June 30, 2026
Responsibilities- Provide English–ASL classroom interpreting for students who are Deaf.
- Facilitate learning and communication among students who are deaf and hard‑of‑hearing. Assist with interpreting academic subjects and classroom activities. Provide classroom interpreting, platform interpreting, and one‑to‑one or small group tutoring. Assist with specialized communication/adaptive devices and instructional materials. Check and troubleshoot student amplification equipment.
- Provide interpretive, instructional and general assistance to individual or small groups of students. Implement daily programming for students including clinical programs; modify and/or adapt classroom materials as required for instructional purposes under the direction of the teacher. Assist students in classroom integration, including social and behavioural issues. Assist with the implementation of Individual Educational Plans (IEPs) and Individual Behaviour Plans (IBPs) and reinforce targeted goals.
- Provide assistance to teachers as required. Observe and record student academic progress and behaviour and report observations to teachers.
- Supervise students during the temporary absence of a teacher; monitor small groups during academic and instructional sessions. Encourage interaction among students.
- Perform miscellaneous duties such as providing interpreter services for school and parents as required. Provide support to others in the absence of deaf and hard‑of‑hearing students.
- Demonstrate dedication to anti‑racism, equity, and diversity.

- Show proven ability to build collaborative cultures founded on integrity and collective purpose.
- Perform other related duties within this classification and related classifications not exceeding skills and capabilities as required.
- Complete secondary education and successful completion of a recognized American Sign Language English Interpreter Program.
- Minimum of two years previous experience working with deaf and hard‑of‑hearing students in an educational environment.
- Equivalent combination of training and/or skills may be considered.
- Knowledge and understanding of the related Division policies and procedures is desirable.
