Position: Assistant Professor in Law Ref: 43637 (Fixed Term)

About The Role

The successful applicant will work with colleagues and students within the Sussex Law School and School of Law, Politics and Sociology. They will teach on and assess undergraduate and postgraduate modules offered on our LLB, and potentially MA and LLM courses, and contribute to the student experience and support of students.

The successful applicant will be on the Education and Scholarship pathway. It is envisaged that the post holders will spend approximately 60% of their time on teaching, 20% on scholarship and 20% on administration and citizenship work. Lecturer A (Grade 7.4) is an early career position. Mentoring is provided, and the postholder will benefit from a probationary reduction in teaching hours as well as remission to secure foundational HE teaching qualification if this is not already held.

About

You

You will hold at least an undergraduate degree in Law, and you will have experience of delivering high-quality teaching at undergraduate and/or postgraduate level. In your application, please outline the areas of law you have experience teaching, as well as any additional areas you would be willing to teach.

You will have excellent presentation and interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing with students, colleagues, and external audiences. You will also demonstrate a willingness to make a proactive contribution to the Department and/or School, including participation in activities beyond core teaching duties.

You should be able to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a team, with the ability to manage your time effectively, prioritise competing demands, and meet deadlines.

It would also be desirable for you to hold a doctorate in Law and to have completed at least the first stage of a Postgraduate Certificate in Higher Education, an Associate Fellowship of the HEA, or an equivalent qualification. An ability to contribute to postgraduate teaching would also be welcomed.
