Animal Care technicians
About the Department
The department teaches students in various aspects of animal care including health monitoring, accommodation, behaviors and feeding a variety of species, students also practice dog training and grooming. The Technician will support lecturers and practical skills instructors in providing relevant animals for students to develop their skills, demonstrate best practice in their daily work and offer guidance and support if appropriate.
Job Responsibilities- The primary responsibility of the role is to maintain animal health and well-being in our care.
- Daily priority is to ensure each animal has appropriate food, water, accommodation and care to maintain their health to a high standard.
- Demonstrate best practice at all times, keeping work areas neat, tidy, and resources well organized.
- Order and maintain supplies of appropriate feed, store and maintain equipment in good order.
- Ensure systems of work are well structured and work areas remain organized and maintained.
Technician cover is required 7 days per week, 365 days a year. During term time a regular weekly schedule will be used; weekend work may be required on a rota basis. Holiday coverage will be agreed for leave periods; sufficient cover must be maintained at all times. Holidays and leave must be scheduled well in advance so arrangements are clear.
Salary£13,112 - £13,362 per annum, dependent on qualifications and experience.
LocationThe Animal Care department is based at Coleg Glynllifon. Students study full-time level 1, 2 and 3 courses, and school groups attend during the week. With guidance students develop understanding and skills through planned practical activities, building in complexity during the course to establish competence so they meet the exam board requirements.
