SEMH Teaching Assistant - Secondary School

Location: Hertfordshire
Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:30am - 3:30pm
Contract: Term Time Only
Start Date: September 2026
Salary: 100- 120 per day

We are currently seeking a dedicated and resilient SEMH Teaching Assistant to join a supportive secondary school in Hertfordshire.

This rewarding role involves supporting students with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, helping them to engage positively with their education and reach their full potential.

Working closely with teachers and pastoral staff, you will provide both classroom and individual support, helping to create a safe, inclusive, and nurturing learning environment for young people.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support students with SEMH needs within the classroom and around the school.
  • Provide 1:1 and small group interventions to promote academic progress and emotional wellbeing.
  • Build positive and trusting relationships with students.
  • Assist in managing behaviour positively and consistently.
  • Encourage engagement, confidence, and independence in learning.
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, SENCOs, and pastoral teams to support individual learning plans.
  • Monitor and report on student progress and wellbeing.

Requirements:

  • Previous experience working with children or young people is desirable.
  • Experience supporting students with SEMH, behavioural needs, SEND, or challenging behaviour is highly desirable.
  • A calm, patient, and empathetic approach.
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Ability to remain resilient and adaptable in a dynamic school environment.
  • A genuine passion for supporting young people to succeed.
