Design Technician

Nestled along the stunning Moray Coast in the North of Scotland, Gordonstoun is internationally recognized as a leader in Hannian education. Our school motto “Plus Est En Vous” – ‘There is more in you’, can be seen every day with challenge and compassion at the heart of all that we do.

We are a co‑educational community of over 500 pupils, aged 4 to 18, bringing together a diverse mix of day and boarding students from over 40 countries.

The Role

We are currently recruiting for a Design Technician to join our Design Department. The department provides a key opportunity for students across the breadth of the school to participate in practical making that is at the heart of a holistic Hannian education. The department tutor technician is at the core of this experience, working alongside teachers to provide a safe, organised and supportive environment where students can learn and develop as skilled makers.

In addition to main maintenance and administrative tasks, the tutor technician will work directly with students, providing safe supervision and teaching practical skills to individuals or small groups.

Key Responsibilities
  • Maintain and manage workshop upkeep and safety.
  • Supervise and support students in practical activities.
  • Teach and demonstrate practical skills in wood and metal fabrication.
  • Assist teachers with lesson planning related to workshop use.
  • Ensure a safe, organised and supportive environment for learners.
Qualifications
  • Significant and relevant breadth of experience within a workshop environment constructing in both wood and metal.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong practical skills with hand tools and machinery across the department’s main manufacturing specialties.
