SEND Teaching Assistant – Full-time, long-term temporary and ongoing from September 2026
This SEND Teaching Assistant role offers the opportunity to work full time in a specialist secondary setting supporting pupils with a range of special educational needs. All pupils are of secondary age and present with needs including autism, ADHD, and learning difficulties. The SEND Teaching Assistant will work closely with teachers and support staff to provide consistent, structured support that promotes engagement, independence, and positive outcomes.
This is a long‑term, ongoing role ideal for someone committed to inclusive education.
- Provide classroom and pastoral support for secondary‑aged pupils with SEND
- Support pupils with autism, ADHD, and learning difficulties on a one‑to‑one or small group basis
- Assist with differentiated learning activities across the curriculum
- Support emotional regulation, behaviour, and engagement using consistent strategies
- Follow individual education plans and support plans accurately
- Promote independence, confidence, and positive social interaction
- Work collaboratively with teachers, SEN staff, and external professionals
- Prepare and organise learning resources as required
- Contribute to a calm, safe, and structured learning environment
- Uphold safeguarding, welfare, and health and safety responsibilities at all times
- Experience supporting pupils with SEND at secondary level
- Essential experience working with pupils with autism and ADHD
- Understanding of learning difficulties and inclusive teaching strategies
- Calm, patient, and resilient approach to behaviour and emotional support
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- Ability to build positive and trusting relationships with pupils
- Commitment to a full‑time, long‑term temporary and ongoing role
- Understanding of safeguarding and professional boundaries
- Passion for supporting young people with additional needs
Salary:
Dependent on experience, paid weekly through PAYE.
