About the roleAt Babcock, we’re working to create a safe and secure world, together. If you join us, you can play your part as a Vehicle Technician Trainer at MOD Lyneham, near Chippenham, Wiltshire.
In this training role, you’ll use your technical background to deliver high‑quality instruction, develop and update course materials, and support learners as they build the skills needed to work confidently across a range of military vehicles and equipment. You’ll assess trainee progress through written and practical evaluations, provide constructive feedback, and help guide their development through coaching, mentoring, and targeted interventions.
Day‑to‑day responsibilities:
- Deliver engaging, hands‑on training to military students using modern teaching methods and pre‑set course materials.
- Maintain your own professional development and ensure training content remains current and relevant.
- Prepare lesson plans, training aids, and assessments to support course delivery.
- Collaborate with colleagues to continuously improve training delivery and outcomes.
- Monitor and support trainee development, providing feedback and remedial training where needed.
You’ll work full‑time Monday to Friday (37 hours per week) based at MOD Lyneham, approximately 7 miles north‑east of Chippenham and 10 miles south‑west of Swindon.
Essential experience- Strong workshop experience with diagnostic skills in light vehicles or HGVs.
- Understanding of military vehicles or environments (desirable but not essential).
- Confident communicator with a passion for mentoring and developing others.
- IT literate, with working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Enthusiastic and articulate, with a proactive approach to learning and teaching.
- Minimum NVQ Level 3 or equivalent in Vehicle Maintenance or Engineering (e.g., City & Guilds Part 3, Apprenticeship, or military equivalent such as Class 1 REME Vehicle Mechanic).
- Level 4 Certificate in Education and Training (or willingness to achieve this as part of the role).
The successful candidate must be able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) clearance for this role. Many of the positions within our company are subject to national security clearance and Trade Control restrictions.
