Role Overview

Learning Support Assistant - SEN Secondary School, Bury

We are seeking a dedicated Learning Support Assistant to support pupils aged with a range of additional needs, including autism, ADHD, learning difficulties and communication challenges. The role offers the chance to work in a nurturing, inclusive environment with small class sizes and specialist resources.

Responsibilities
  • Support pupils with a range of SEN, including autism, ADHD, communication needs and learning difficulties
  • Provide 1:1 and small group support tailored to individual learning needs
  • Assist with implementing EHCP targets and personalised support plans
  • Support emotional regulation, engagement and positive behaviour
  • Adapt learning activities so all pupils can access the curriculum
  • Build positive and trusting relationships with students
  • Work collaboratively with teaching staff, therapists and the wider support team
  • Help create a safe, inclusive, and structured learning environment
  • Provide classroom support, targeted interventions and 1:1 support as required
Qualifications
  • Experience working with children or young people, in education or transferable settings (e.g. care, youth work, coaching, mentoring, psychology, or support work)
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Patient, resilient and adaptable approach
  • Ability to build positive relationships and act as a role model
  • Commitment to helping pupils achieve their individual goals
  • Genuine passion for supporting young people with additional needs

Requirements
  • Right to work in the UK
  • Enhanced DBS (or willingness to obtain one) on the Update Service
  • Applicants who have lived outside the UK for more than three months within the last five years may need to provide an overseas police clearance
  • Appropriate qualifications and training for the role
  • Valid enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service check
  • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children
  • Willingness to undertake safeguarding checks in accordance with DfE guidance
