You will be reporting to the Service Manager for Secondary and Tertiary Education.

Your working pattern is Monday to Friday. We are happy to talk flexible working, where possible.

We are looking for a Teacher of Technologies (must have Woodwork and any other practical subject experience to National Level within Technologies).

The purpose of this role is to deliver high-quality learning and teaching that inspires children and young people to develop practical, creative, digital and problem‑solving skills for learning, life and work.

This is an itinerant teacher post and the postholder will travel to Sanday, Westray and Stronsay Junior High Schools throughout the week as part of the junior high school's curriculum offer in secondary along with other secondary teacher colleagues via plane. Plane travel is paid for by Orkney Islands Council.

The postholder supports learners to achieve their full potential through engaging and relevant experiences across the technologies' curriculum, while contributing to wider school improvement, positive relationships and inclusive practice. In Orkney's unique island context, the role also involves working collaboratively with colleagues, families, partners and the wider community to broaden opportunities, raise attainment and help young people develop the skills and confidence needed for future pathways, employment and lifelong learning.

The successful candidate will be responsible for planning and delivering high-quality learning and teaching across the technologies curriculum, creating engaging learning experiences which meet the needs of all learners and support positive outcomes. The role includes assessing and tracking progress, contributing to attainment and achievement, promoting creativity, digital skills and practical problem-solving, and maintaining a safe and purposeful learning environment. The postholder will work collaboratively with colleagues, parents, partners and wider agencies to support inclusion, wellbeing and positive destinations for young people, while contributing to whole-school improvement priorities and the wider life of the school community.

Salary will be based on the Main Grade Scale of the SNCT Salary Tables plus a Distant Islands Allowance.

This is a regulated role with children and requires Level 2 Disclosure with PVG scheme membership.
