Ty Gwyn Education Centre wishes to appoint an Unqualified Teacher to complement our existing team of committed and talented staff. Any specialist subject background can be considered, the ability to engage hard to reach pupils and help them achieve their full potential is the key skill sought.
Ty Gwyn Education Centre is a secondary age Pupil Referral Unit (PRU) located in a newly refurbished building in the Aberdare area, serving the whole of RCT and learners from age 11 to 16 years.
We offer specialist provision for up to 60 learners with behavioural, emotional and social needs that cannot be met in their mainstream school. Learners are a mixture of full and part time and access a broad and balanced curriculum of core subjects (English, Maths and Science) and a range of vocational and foundation subjects. You could be asked to deliver any or a mixture of these subject areas with support from senior staff.
There is a significant emphasis on developing learner wellbeing and mental health and Ty Gwyn is a Trauma Informed School with a growing team of therapeutic support staff.
ResponsibilitiesAs an Unqualified teacher at Ty Gwyn, you will be supporting and guiding children and young people to make positive choices, re-engage in learning and develop their skills. You will support pupils pastorally, as a form family teacher including emotional check‑ins, short and focussed interventions to resolve an issue, and you will be experienced at de‑escalation. You will provide high quality first teaching experiences, additional support and scaffolding and be skilled at differentiating support.
You, yourself, will be a lifelong learner and a trusted responsible figure in the PRU.
Protecting children and adults at risk is a core responsibility for the school and council. In addition to this safeguarding responsibility, the successful applicant will also be subject to an enhanced disclosure and barring service check.
The Council and School values diversity in its workforce. We are committed to ensuring that no unlawful discrimination occurs in the recruitment and selection process on the grounds of age, sex, race, disability, sexual orientation, transgender, including those with non‑binary identities, religion or belief or pregnancy and maternity. We offer a number of staff networks for employees including the Allies Network, a Disability and Carers Network and Perthyn our LGBTQ+ Network.
An application submitted for this post in Welsh will not be treated less favourably than an application made in English.
