Salary: Grade 6 – £28,142 x 87.84%

Location: Ty Gwyn Education Centre, Ty Gwyn, Y Dolydd Aberdare CF44 8EX
/ Ty Castan (EOTAS), Library Road, Pontypridd CF37 2DY

Numbers of Pupils on role: 60

Hours: 37 hours per week, Term Time Only

Contract: Temporary until 31 March 2027

Start date: September 2026

The position is a flexible and enthusiastic Family Engagement Officer based at Ty Gwyn Education Centre, a busy pupil referral unit in Aberdare, with an additional setting at Ty Castan in Pontypridd. The focus is to continue improving attendance and engagement among a hard‑to‑reach learner group, supporting children and families to overcome barriers to attendance.

  • Encourage and support children who may be at home to attend school.
  • Provide help and access to support services for families.
  • Work across the main site at Ty Gwyn and at Ty Castan where tuition services are based, including making home and community visits.
  • Collaborate closely with the RCT Attendance and Welfare Service (AWS) to drive improvements in attendance across the service.
  • Perform administrative tasks such as letter and report writing, using Bromcom for data management, and preparing reports for the Head of Centre, local authority, and Ty Gwyn’s governors.
  • Serve as a role model, lifelong learner and trusted responsible figure, supporting and guiding children and young people to make positive choices and engage in learning.
  • Receive ongoing professional development and support to grow personally and professionally.

The role requires a positive, proactive approach, strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively across multiple sites and with diverse stakeholders. Experience in working with pupils with attendance issues and experience of community outreach will be an advantage.
