Job Overview
Associate Music Tutors play a vital role in supporting music‑making across Suffolk's schools and communities. This flexible role offers a range of opportunities to inspire young musicians and support the delivery of high‑quality music education.
Key Responsibilities- Deliver engaging, enjoyable and inspiring music tuition, primarily face‑to‑face and occasionally online.
- Provide cover for contracted staff during short and long‑term absences.
- Undertake new teaching assignments when schools purchase additional tuition and contracted staff are fully allocated.
- Deliver workshops, starter programmes and other short‑term music projects.
- Support our County Music Groups programme, including ensembles such as Suffolk Youth Orchestra, Suffolk Youth Wind Band, Suffolk Youth Jazz Orchestra and Suffolk Young String Orchestra.
- Establish and develop new ensembles within schools and regional music centres, depending on your musical specialisms.
- Represent the Music Service professionally and treat everyone with dignity and respect.
- Follow the policies, procedures and professional standards of Suffolk County Music Service and Suffolk County Council.

- Have access to all Suffolk County Music Service training opportunities, including five paid training days per year, safeguarding, child protection, wellbeing and teaching‑focused development sessions.
- Be considered for all new teaching opportunities arising within the Music Service.
- Have opportunities to broaden your experience across a variety of teaching settings, including Whole Class Ensemble Teaching (WCET), group tuition, online teaching, ensemble leadership, residential courses, overseas tours and collaborative projects with organisations such as the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, Britten Sinfonia and the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment.
- Maintain flexibility and control over your workload, with the freedom to accept or decline opportunities without affecting future offers of work.
- Receive support from a dedicated line manager.
- Contribute to a forward‑thinking service that values collaboration, innovation and the views of its workforce, while remaining committed to delivering accessible and inspiring musical opportunities for children and young people across Suffolk.
