Cover People are recruiting an SEMH Teaching Assistant to join a specialist secondary provision in Manchester. This role involves supporting students with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, helping them to re-engage with education, develop confidence and achieve positive outcomes. The school offers small class sizes, extensive pastoral support and a broad curriculum that combines academic learning with vocational opportunities and therapeutic interventions.

The Role:
  • Support students with SEMH needs in lessons and during intervention activities.
  • Develop strong, professional relationships that encourage engagement and progress.
  • Provide 1:1 and small-group support tailored to individual learning and wellbeing needs.
  • Assist with behaviour management using positive and restorative approaches.
  • Support pupils in developing social, emotional and communication skills.
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, pastoral staff and therapists to support student development.
The Ideal Candidate :
  • Experience working with children or young people with SEMH, SEND or behavioural needs.
  • A calm, patient and consistent approach.
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Confidence supporting students who may present challenging behaviour.
  • A genuine passion for helping young people overcome barriers to learning.
