We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate English Teacher to join our specialist secondary provision, supporting young people with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs .

This is an exciting opportunity to teach and inspire students with a range of additional needs, including Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), ADHD, PDA, OCD and ODD , within a supportive environment that prioritises individual progress, wellbeing and achievement.

About the Role

As an SEMH English Teacher , you will deliver engaging, high-quality English lessons to students on either a one-to-one basis or in small group settings . All students have an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) , with Individual Learning Plans (ILPs) tailored to their individual outcomes and aspirations.

Working as part of a multidisciplinary team, you will create an inclusive learning environment where students feel safe, valued and empowered to reach their full potential.

Key Responsibilities

You will:

  • Plan and deliver engaging English lessons that meet the individual needs of learners with SEMH and SEND.
  • Develop schemes of work, medium-term and short-term planning that promote progress and engagement.
  • Differentiate learning to ensure every student can access the curriculum and achieve success.
  • Monitor, assess and record student progress, providing constructive feedback and setting ambitious but achievable targets.
  • Produce and review Individual Learning Plans (ILPs), SEN Passports and contribute to annual EHCP reviews and provision mapping.
  • Promote literacy across the curriculum while supporting students to overcome barriers to learning.
  • Deliver targeted interventions to accelerate progress and raise attainment.
  • Build positive, trusting relationships with students, providing pastoral support where required.
  • Work collaboratively with Teaching Assistants, HLTAs and colleagues to ensure the best possible outcomes for learners.
  • Maintain high expectations for behaviour, engagement and achievement in line with the school's behaviour policy.
  • Create a stimulating, safe and well-organised classroom environment.
  • Communicate effective with parents and carers regarding student progress and development.
  • Contribute to the wider life of the school, attending meetings, training and professional development opportunities.
About You

The successful candidate will have:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or an equivalent recognised teaching qualification.
  • Experience teaching English at secondary level.
  • Experience working with students with SEMH, SEN and/or Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).
  • A proven track record of securing positive outcomes for young people.
  • Excellent classroom and behaviour management skills.
  • The ability to create innovative, engaging and differentiated lesson plans.
  • Strong organisational and communication skills.
  • A proactive, resilient and compassionate approach to teaching.
  • A commitment to safeguarding, inclusion and ensuring every student can achieve their potential.
