SEN Teaching Assistant – Northchurch

Pay: £85–£115 per day (dependent on experience)
Supply Desk are currently seeking a dedicated, caring and enthusiastic SEN Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming and inclusive school in the Northchurch area. The successful candidate will provide tailored support to pupils with a range of Special Educational Needs, helping them to overcome barriers to learning, develop confidence and make positive progress.
You will work closely with class teachers, SENCOs and other members of the support team to provide individualised and small-group support, ensuring pupils are able to engage with their learning and feel confident within the classroom environment.
This role would suit someone who is passionate about supporting children with additional needs, patient in their approach and committed to creating a positive, nurturing environment where every pupil is given the opportunity to succeed.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide 1:1 and small-group support to pupils with a range of Special Educational Needs
Support pupils with needs including ASD, ADHD, speech and language difficulties, and social, emotional and mental health needs
Assist pupils with accessing the curriculum and participating positively in classroom activities
Build positive, trusting relationships with pupils and encourage their confidence and self-esteem
Support pupils with emotional regulation, social development and positive behaviour
Monitor pupil engagement, progress and wellbeing, sharing relevant information with teachers and SENCOs
Adapt support strategies and activities to reflect individual pupil needs
Encourage pupils to develop independence, resilience and a positive attitude towards learning
Work effectively as part of a wider team, including teachers, SENCOs, parents/carers and external professionals
· Contribute to maintaining a safe, inclusive and supportive classroom environment
Role Requirements:
Previous experience supporting children with Special Educational Needs is preferred
Good understanding of different SEN needs and appropriate support strategies
Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with pupils
A calm, patient and consistent approach to behaviour management
A genuine passion for education and helping children and young people reach their potential
Good understanding of safeguarding and the importance of pupil wellbeing
Previous experience working within a primary or secondary school is desirable
