Flushing Technician
Purpose and Scope of the Role
Tetra Tech is seeking a Flushing Technician to support water quality and valve operations across the Thames Water network. You will support planned flushing, shut‑offs, reconnections and stop tap replacements, helping to protect network integrity and maintain water quality standards. You will work closely with field teams, supervisors and client contacts, capturing accurate chlorine and turbidity readings, recording operational data, and ensuring outputs are logged and reported promptly and correctly.

In the short term, you will build strong operational knowledge and confidence in quality‑focused field work. In the medium term, you will contribute to smoother delivery, better compliance and improved data quality across planned programmes. Over time, this role offers the opportunity to develop into a trusted specialist within network operations, with exposure to significant water industry work and progression through Tetra Tech’s technical delivery environment.
CoreCapabilities Required For Success
- Network Operations Knowledge:
Solid experience in water network work, particularly valve operations, flushing and stop tap activity, with a practical understanding of how to maintain network performance. - Quality and Data Accuracy:
Strong attention to detail when taking readings, recording results and reporting field findings, with a consistent focus on high standards and reliable outputs. - Safe Field Delivery: A clear commitment to health, safety and environmental procedures, with the ability to carry out tasks safely in live operational environments.
- Communication and Team working:
Able to work effectively with operational teams, supervisors and client stakeholders, maintaining clear and professional communication throughout the working day. - Proactive, Hands‑on Approach:
Comfortable working independently, using initiative to resolve issues, support field activities and respond quickly to changing site conditions.
Expected: experience in water network operations and a sound understanding of flushing and water quality processes.
Desirable: relevant operational water industry training, valve operation certification, or similar technical qualifications.
Work Patterns and LocationsThis is a field‑based role covering the Swindon area. The working pattern is Monday to Friday, 7:00am to 3:30pm. Hybrid or remote working is not available due to the operational nature of the role.
