Job DescriptionLarge Volume Inorganic Chemicals (LVIC) installations are required to use ‘Best Available Techniques’ (BAT) to reduce emissions to air, water and land. We have established a process for the definition of BAT within the UK, a transparent, collaborative, data‑driven process that safeguards and builds on the current high levels of environmental protection. Central to this process will be the UK BAT Author.
You’ll be responsible for drafting BAT Conclusions, liaising with Technical Working Groups and presenting a final document suitable for publication as a new, UK‑wide, environmental standard for industry.
Key Responsibilities- Draft BAT Conclusions and supporting documents.
- Collaborate with Technical Working Groups.
- Present final documents for publication as UK environmental standards.
- Manage project timelines and deliverables.
- Travel and overnight stays may be required.
- Support inclusive incident management initiatives.
- Specialist knowledge and understanding of the LVIC industry.
- Good understanding of process engineering and environmental issues.
- Strong knowledge of UK environmental legislation and policy.
- Capability to critically analyse technical arguments and data.
- Excellent technical writing and communication skills.
- Good project management skills and drive to complete.
- At least 5 years’ working experience in the environmental regulation of the LVIC industry.
- Expert understanding of the large volume inorganic chemicals industry.
- In‑depth knowledge of UK and EU industrial environmental legislation, including the IED and Environmental Permitting Regulations.
- Collection and technical analysis of complex industrial data.
- Understanding the implications of BAT Conclusions in permits, industry and the environment.
- Verbal and written communication.
- Building and maintaining relationships.
- Planning, prioritising and organising tasks and resources to ensure timely and effective results.
- Responding flexibly to challenges and building consensus.
- Working effectively with people from different backgrounds and cultures; encouraging diversity.
