This role is in our Transmission and Renewables division.

We provide an end-to-end service, delivering solutions in electricity transmission, distribution, renewable energy, EV, metering and home decarbonisation.

What will you be doing:

We're looking for a  Sustainability Advisor  to join our team in   Aberdeen , this is a    central role in driving the business’s Sustainability Strategy by delivering training, analysing data, and producing reports, while ensuring that project design and construction meet both MGroup Energy and SSEN client sustainability commitments. This role will require some travel so a  Full UK driving licence is required.

You'll provide guidance on environmental issues such as carbon reduction and social value, collaborate with clients and contractors to embed best practices, and oversee sustainability management across all project stages. Beyond project delivery, you'll support internal teams—such as Bids, Design, Procurement, Supply Chain, and Training—by enhancing procedures, embedding sustainable approaches, and facilitating tailored training. Acting as a mentor and advisor, you'll help project teams and partners understand sustainability risks and responsibilities, while also introducing innovative techniques to improve environmental performance.

As part of the wider SHEQ team, you'll ensure compliance with legislation, maintain management processes, and regularly liaise with stakeholders to anticipate risks and implement timely changes that safeguard business continuity.

Ensure any works completed on site meet the clients required specification / MGroup Energy standards of work.

Work with the Environment and Sustainability Manager, within the wider business unit, sector and group to identify, develop, quantify and deliver innovative and sustainable products and services following sustainability targets and commitments including proposing and delivering, if possible, sustainability initiatives for projects including production of business case, where appropriate.  Lead a process of change and transformation.  Implement cost saving initiatives on site and roll out successful ones across business.

Provide support to projects to ensure understanding, competence, compliance and continuous improvement.  Includes carrying out routine site visits, surveys, inspections and internal audits and providing constructive advice and compensatory actions.

Provide all project, and client, team(s) with professional environmental sustainability direction and considered, pragmatic specialist advice, guidance and support in sustainability topics and risks.  Provide advice, training, standard controls and mitigation through project tendering, Early Contractor Involvement (ECI) and construction stages of a project in order to ensure that environmental sustainability is managed proactively, pragmatically and appropriately whilst remaining within regulatory and other compliance framework(s).

Research, review and gather required information in order to produce mandatory and required project sustainability documentation without oversight including, but not limited to Environmental Management Plans, Carbon Management Plans, Sustainability Action Plans, Toolbox Talks and occasional site walkover surveys.

Review of specialist documentation such as specialist method statements, tender information etc. to provide detailed technical sustainability support to project and bids / ECI team(s) for risk identification, management and mitigation.

Assist Estimator with project management (time) allocation and ensure costs, projected time and programmes are included in the work package.
