This is a fantastic opportunity to join my client, a market-leading, green-minded Multidisciplinary Consultancy, renowned for delivering their expertise throughout the engineering and environmental landscapes, delivering major, exciting projects across the UK. They are on the lookout for a capable, motivated Principal Hydrologist, willing to lead a high-performing team and deliver on an extensive range of projects, whilst contributing to Business Development (BD) activities.
You will be based near the vibrant, diverse city of Birmingham.

Responsibilities for the role of Principal Hydrologist include:
- Lead the preparation of technical documents for submission, to include Flood Risk Assessments (FRA), Environmental Impact Assessments (EIA), etc.
- Manage projects, delivering them to schedule and within budget
- Liaise closely with a range of important clients and other stakeholders, such as the Environment Agency, Lead Local Flood Authorities (LLFA), etc.
- Check and amend technical documents (e.g., models, calculations, reports, etc.) prepared by colleagues
- Actively identify and contribute to Business Development opportunities and activities
- Manage and mentor other hydrological colleagues
Required skills and experience for the role of Principal Hydrologist include:
- UK Bachelor's Degree (or equivalent qualification) in Civil Engineering, Environmental Science, or a related discipline
- Chartered Status with a relevant, recognised Professional Body (e.g., CIWEM, etc.)
- Extensive experience of working in a hydrological role, within a UK-based consultancy (or Local Authority) setting
- Excellent proficiency in the use of relevant software systems, including FEH, WINFAP, Flood Modeller, HEC-RAS, WinDES, and AutoCAD
- Outstanding communication (written and verbal), interpersonal, and organisational skills
- Technically-minded with excellent report-writing skills
Desirable skills and experience for the role of Principal Hydrologist include:
- An advanced qualification in a relevant discipline
- Hold a full, valid UK Driving Licence
