Service Engineer – Plant Machinery (Workshop + Field)

A busy, growing plant machinery business based in Northampton is looking to add an additional Service Engineer due to increased workload. The business works across a mixed range of new and used plant machinery and needs someone practical, hands‑on and comfortable with variety.

This is a hands‑on role supporting both the workshop and on‑site work. The current split is roughly 70 % workshop / 30 % field, but the field element is expected to grow over time as service demand increases. You’ll be involved in machine prep, PDI, servicing, repairs and breakdown support across a varied fleet. This would suit someone who can get stuck in, work on their own initiative and isn’t fazed by a busy environment with mixed equipment.

• PDI and preparation of new and used plant machinery
• Routine servicing and maintenance
• Fault finding and repairs (workshop and on‑site)
• Breakdown support and customer call‑outs as required
• Mechanical, hydraulic and basic electrical diagnostics
• Working on attachments and associated equipment (e.g. buckets / breakers)
• Accurate job sheets / service paperwork and clear communication with the workshop team

• Proven experience working on heavy plant / construction machinery
• Strong mechanical and hydraulic servicing / fault‑finding skills
• Basic electrical diagnostics capability (not a heavily electrical role)
• Self‑sufficient, practical and happy to muck in where needed
• Comfortable working in both the workshop and on‑site
• Full UK driving licence
• NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) ideal (or time‑served with strong plant experience)
• Background from plant hire / mixed fleet / independent service environments highly relevant
