Senior Environmental Adviser:

Purpose of the Role:

- To be the Environmental lead on the project, working closely with the project team, stakeholders and the supply chain.
- To manage environmental aspects, ensuring the project is compliant with legal and ISO standards and deliver- environmental support to site.
- Meet the client, stakeholder, legislative other third party and internal requirements on environmental standards.
- Contribute to the sustainability strategy development and implementation in the business.

Role Accountabilities:

o Undertake environmental aspect & impact assessments. Identify mitigation measures and develop Construction Environmental Management Plan and any other project specific management plans that may be required; e.g pollution prevention plan, waste management plan.
o Ensure CEMP is communicated to project site teams and supply chain. Deliver training and awareness as necessary, including but not limited to attending daily briefings; prepare toolbox talks.
o Apply for environmental consents and permits as may be required by the project. Maintain a consents register and ensure permit requirements are discharged enabling works to be undertaken.
o Review method statements/risk assessments to ensure environmental protection measures are included and implemented on site during the works.
o Have knowledge or experience of implementing environmental monitoring for air, water, noise or vibration.
o Carry out regular site inspections. Use HART to report any issues and ensure issues raised are closed out. Use HART to carry out trend analysis, identify any potential risks.
o In the event of an environmental incident, take the necessary action to minimise environmental harm. Carry out full investigation; preparing reports as necessary, identifying root cause; liaise with regulatory body if appropriate. Review management plans and protection measure and make any changes necessary.
o Support head office HSE during internal and external audits.
o Help the company deliver its commitments and vision to sites to the appropriate standards including ISO
14001 and BS50001.
o Support the Project Manager to maintain strong relationships with the Client, local authorities and frameworks and representing the business within those forums.
o Develop communication tools (e.g. guidance and training materials, newsletters, alerts) to inform HTUK personnel and stakeholders as appropriate
o Liaise with Head Office environmental team, project site teams and supply chain on site and ensure that HTUK, Client and Stakeholder environmental objectives are met.
o Prepare and present reports as required on project environmental performance
o Capture HTUK best practice and produce case studies to share information and improve performance.
o Contribute to work winning when required i.e. PQQ's and tender

Additional Duties:

o At times HTUK reserve the right to ask you to attend other UK sites/projects further afield for auditing purposes, training, holiday cover or similar environmental support. Reasonable expenses will be covered to help you undertake this. It is not expected to exceed 40% of your annual total
- To report to the Head of HSE and complete any other duties consistent with your status and seniority, as necessary to meet the needs of the Business of the Company.

Key Safety Responsibilities:

o Please see separate individual responsibilities for Health, Safety and Environmental (HS&E) matters attached.

Required Project knowledge:

o Have at least five years' experience in a similar role within the construction industry (ideally infrastructure) projects
o Good communication skills, both written and spoken
o Preferably degree level qualification. Be a Practitioner member of ISEP or similar body for environmental professionals.
